travels in ladakh - 1

Here's page one of photos from my recent trip to Ladakh. The page may take a short while to load, but if I made the pictures any smaller, you wouldn't be able to see them properly!

Doorway in Manali. This was the entrance to an old farm buidling.
A friendly Lama.
Prayer flags in Leh. Just about every available peak is adorned with these flags, which pray as they flutter in the breeze.
Arid landscape near Leh. Only areas which are well watered are green. The hills display a great number and variation of hues and textures.
Stoopas at Sunset. These religious constructions, varying greatly in size are a constant feature of the landscape in Ladakh.
A ridge-top village. Typically important buildings such as palaces and monasteries are placed away from the rest of the village on ridges or hill-tops.
Glacial melt water, carefully channelled is the key to life here. Himalayas in the background.
